The Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft zur Förderung der angewandten Forschung e.V. (FhG) is a link between science and industry, that is between the research and the application of its results. Whilst the administrative headquarters are in Munich, the legally non-independent research institutes operate from different locations throughout Germany. About 12500 employees in 56 Institutes at 40 locations and a research budget of about 1.2bn € represent the key figures of Fraunhofer Gesellschaft.

With more than 250 employees and 10,000m² of usable floor space the Fraunhofer Institute for Laser Technology, hereinafter referred to as ILT, is world-wide one of the most important development and contract research institutes of its specific field. The activities cover a wide range of areas such as the development of new laser beam sources and components, the use of modern laser measurement and testing technology and laser-supported manufacturing. The partner Fraunhofer-ILT has 25-years experience with all types of lasers for industrial, scientific and medical applications and is an acknowledged research partner in numerous R&D-projects with industrial and scientific partners.
