The Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (Technical University of Madrid) (UPM) is the largest Spanish technical university. As a top quality academic establishment, it has a strong commitment to R&D and Innovation. UPM ranks first among Spanish Universities in FP7 participation having participated until now in more than 180 FP7 projects with 50 M € funding. The R&D Center CEMDATIC at the E.T.S.I. Telecomunicación (Telecom. Eng. High School), part of UPM, is focused on Advanced Materials and Devices for ICT Applications.

The UPM team in charge of this project has more than 20 years experience in research on optoelectronic devices, specially modeling, simulation, characterization and applications of high power and high speed laser diodes. The group has developed simulation tools for high power laser diodes under commercial exploitation (www.photond.com) and has contributed to new characterization techniques of semiconductor lasers. The group has participated in different National and EC funded projects on laser diodes, as well on ESA contracts.

Role in BRITESPACE

  • Project coordination
  • Definition of laser transmitter architecture and specifications
  • Contribution to modeling, simulation and design of MOPA devices
  • Contribution to spectral and dynamical characterization of MOPA devices
